US 15 from Harrisburg north to Painted Post - decent road? Crap?
I have to drive from central NC to Rochester...that's the shortest way. Google's alternative is via Harrisburg to Scranton/Binghampton/Syracuse and across on the Thruway...nearly an hour longer.

It's a highway. I have been on the end of it around painted post and it isn't anything too special. Going to Rochester 86-390 isn't anything all that exciting. But then again I'm not a huge fan of highway driving.

That's about all I'm looking for - get thru with minimum hassle...thanks.

The road is never very busy, at least 86-290 isn't. My parents live off of 390 in the Dansville area so I am fairly well traveled along that road

US15 has to be better than I-81. Mule paths are better than 81.
you gonna be nearby Harrisburg?

Not sure about US15 but stay away from Scranton on 81. Horrendous construction right now.

Thanks...yes, zipping thru H'burg. It's about an 11 hour drive so not planning on dawdling along the way.
81 from H'burg to Scranton is one of the dullest roads I've ever been on...painfully so if I recall...

Ahhh. Not many people choose to stick around HBG anyways. Speedy travels. and, yes, that road is dull as hell.

Did it a few hundred times. 15 is a nice, smooth road for much of the drive, but it is 55MPH the entire damn way til you get north of Williamsport. Especially watch for cops in the Lewisburg to Selinsgrove area. Once you get north of Williamsport, its smooth quick cruising with few cops and little traffic. Incidentally, you can take a minor detour through Williamsport and pass the house I lived in in college.

You've gotta take the Painted Post - Rochester route and can the 81/Thruway idea. It's harvest time in the Finger Lakes. Apples - there are so many different varieties. If you go thru Watkins Glen , you can check out Finger Lakes Distilling in nearby Burdett for some whiskeys (incl. corn liquor) and other spirits, and there are wineries everywhere, and they're in production mode...good stuff.
